The Center for Child Protection and Family Support (Center) is an Approved Training Agency as designated by the Office of State Superintendent of Education (OSSE), Office of Early Care and Education Administration (ECEA). The Center conducts comprehensive training workshops for childcare providers and other mandated reporters that practice in the District of Columbia. Our workshops are interactive and are held in various locations in the community. Our cadres of trainers are hands on specialists; nurses, physicians, social workers, mental health providers, educators, and people in recovery, outreach workers, and case managers.
Scheduling is flexible. It is based on the needs of participants and availability of trainers. Fees are based on the length of training if in group of 20 persons. Times and location of the training sessions are posted on our event page.
We offer Continuing Education Credits through a formal agreement with the District of Columbia Community College. Ensuring the quality of services and compliance with the DC Regulations is a top priority.
The Center has two training programs; The Child Abuse and Neglect Training Institute (CANTI), and the Center's Training Academy (CTA). On a fee-for-service basis, both programs offer workshops in the approved core knowledge areas of (1) Child Growth and Development; (2) Health and Nutrition; and (3) Curriculum.
Child Abuse and Neglect Training Institute (CANTI): on a fee-for-services bases, we offers expert professional training in core knowledge areas such as incidence and prevalence of child violence, recognition of physical abuse and neglect, and sexual abuse. Depending on the length of the training, topics include: Overview of child maltreatment in the District of Columbia and nationally; Incidence and prevalence; Recognition of signs and symptoms; Understanding the neglected child; Values clarification; Risk management; Ethnic and cultural factors; Prevention and intervention strategies; and Child care facilities regulations/policy and procedures. In addition, training content includes information on the requirements for mandated reporting and understanding the systems response for the protection of children in the District of Columbia.
During the advanced workshops, participants receive guidance on how to handle the challenges and issues of working with parents, mental health needs of children who are impacted by incidences of child maltreatment and strategies for working with at-risk adolescents.
Center Training Academy (CTA): on a fee-for-services base, we offer expert professional training workshops on topics such as anger management; proposal writing; management and supervision; child growth and development; health, safety and nutrition; curriculum development; and inclusive practices for children with special health care needs.
